Why 'thank you' are the two words Newcastle fans owe Alan Pardew for not leaving earlier than he did.
Newcastle United and Alan Pardew have moved in different trajectories since they parted ways earlier this year.
Crystal Palace are eyeing a top 10 finish while Newcastle are in freefall under the listless management of John Carver.
Their fans were lambasted by journalist Patrick Barclay in the Evening Standard earlier this month who argued Newcastle supporters owed Alan Pardew an apology for wanting him to leave the club.
In their defence many were unhappy during Pardew's tenure, and could not have foreseen he would not be properly replaced when he walked away.
Newcastle fans are currently living a sporting nightmare as they watch a team devoid of impetus struggle to reach the required level, and have now lost their last six games in a row.
It's not a 'We're sorry' which Newcastle fans owe Pardew though.
If there are two words that should be uttered, it's not 'come back' either. Manager and club were not a perfect fit and there was a reason why the manager walked away.
The two words most apt right now are 'Thank you'. To elaborate, Pardew deserves credit for getting Newcastle to the points total he did.
Since John Carver was appointed, Newcastle have won just eight points of their total of 35. The other 27 were all won under Alan Pardew's management.
If it had not been for those points in the bag, John Carver would be steering Newcastle towards certain relegation.
At present they may just have enough to avoid it, but they have to pick up points before the season's end to be sure.
Had Pardew took the decision to walk away earlier, in say October, the rot could have started a lot sooner and Newcastle could be as good as down already.
