Liverpool defender Andre Wisdom took the time to favourite a Derby County fan’s tweet regarding a return to the iPro Stadium after going 10 games without a start in the Premier League with West Bromwich Albion.
Rams fans, who could see their side cement a place in the Championship play-offs with a win on Saturday, have been frustrated this season with inconsistent defending and have bemoaned the loss of Wisdom to their side after a successful loan spell last season.
The former England under-21 captain joined West Brom on loan in the summer with the expectation that it would be another stepping stone in his development to becoming a Liverpool regular. However, it hasn’t worked out that way and the youngster’s future is in doubt heading into the summer transfer window.
Should McClaren look to bring Wisdom back to Derby?
If McClaren remains Derby County boss next season, promoted or not, it would not be surprising to see the former England manager look to bring the stocky defender back to the East Midlands.
After an unsuccessful loan spell in the Premier League, the youngster’s stock won’t be that high and it could be an ideal time for the Rams to move to re-sign a defender that proved so pivotal in their promotion push last season.
Rodgers, who will want to put a side together ready for a Premier League title push, could allow the defender to leave this summer on either a short or long-term basis as it looks unlikely that he will be called upon for the first team next season.
Cyrus Christie and Ryan Shotton have both come under the microscope, and have been deemed not as impressive as the Liverpool man, but whether the Rams can bring him back when the window of opportunity re-opens remains to be seen.
