We take a look at what Liverpool's squad could look like next season with no new signings.
Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers will face a lot of pressure to spend in the summer transfer window. However, we take a look at what his squad could look like with no new faces next season.
Rodgers has eight players out of contract this summer – Steven Gerrard, Glen Johnson, Kolo Toure, Jon Flanagan, Brad Jones, Brad Smith, Jordan Lussey and Kevin Stewart – and may have to look at a fairly significant reshuffle in order to get his side ready for a crack at Champions League qualification.
The former Swansea man has a number of players returning from loan he could look to run the rule over, but the expectation is that the Reds will look to spend heavily this summer.
Who could leave Liverpool this summer?
Gerrard has already confirmed he will leave the club in the summer and apart from Flanagan and perhaps Jones, the rest of the players out of contract look likely to follow.
Johnson's and Toure’s contract situations have been very quiet in the press and with only a month left of the playing season, it seems unlikely they will be around next season despite playing a fairly sizable part this term.
Andre Wisdom, after failing to make an impact at West Bromwich Albion, could be loaned out again or permanently sold and Sebastian Coates could also find himself in a similar situation.
Iago Aspas’ days look numbered and La Liga loanee Luis Alberto could look to join him out the door at Anfield this summer.
Who could be promoted to the Liverpool first team this summer?
Divock Origi looks a good bet to slot straight into the Liverpool side once his loan at Lille ends and he could be joined by the impressive Joao Teixeira and Tiago Llori.
Jordan Rossiter could be asked to play a more significant role in the side, along with Samed Yesil. However, it could be a little too soon for the likes of Sergi Canos, Sheyi Ojo and Jerome Sinclair.
Javier Manquillo’s future could be a doubt. However, most fans would agree he’s done enough to warrant a permanent transfer despite his recent absence.
How the team could look:
Goalkeepers: Brad Jones and Simon Mignolet.
Defenders: Jose Enrique, Dejan Lovren, Mamadou Sakho, Alberto Moreno, Javier Manquillo, Emre Can, Martin Skrtel, Jon Flanagan, Tiago Llori.
Midfielders: Philippe Coutinho, Jordan Henerson, Adam Lallana, Lucas Leiva, Joe Allen, Raheem Sterling, Jordon Ibe, Jordan Rossiter, Lazar Markovic, Joao Teixeira.
Attackers: Rickie Lambert, Daniel Sturridge, Fabio Borini, Samed Yesil, Mario Balotelli, Divock Origi.
