Southampton supporters are keen to see Sam Gallagher given a first-team chance after his display against Blackburn Rovers in the U21 Premier League Cup.

Southampton supporters have called for Sam Gallagher to be given a first-team chance on the back of his match-winning display in the U21 Premier League Cup on Monday.

Gallagher scored Southampton's winning goal in their 2-1 victory over Blackburn Rovers last night, and it was a strike that helped to highlight the attacker's ability.

Gallagher picked up the ball out wide, went on a mazy dribble, exchanged passes with a teammate and lashed the ball goalwards from 25 yards out to ensure that his side lifted the trophy.

It was a moment which capped off a fine display from the forward, and Southampton fans are calling for Ronald Koeman to promote him to the senior squad.

Gallagher has endured a frustrating season so far, with injury thwarting his progress, but the Saints are hopeful that he may get a run-out before the campaign comes to a close.

The 19-year-old is regarded as one of Southampton's brightest up and coming talents and appeared to be on the verge of a breakthrough under Mauricio Pochettino.

Gallager played 18 times in 2013/14, but he is still yet to make an appearance under Koeman, and that will be a disappointment for the forward.

After his starring role last night, though, he has reminded Southampton fans of his quality and the hope is that Koeman will have been impressed enough to include him before the season is over.
