Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino will be delighted with the determined comments of Dele Alli, as covered on the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast Show for talkSPORT.
Alli was speaking having been named as the Football League’s Young Player of the Year and he doesn’t seem to want to waste any time when he links up with Tottenham in the summer.
“I’m not going to lie and say I don’t want to get into that starting eleven, but I’m just going to take each step as it comes. It’s a big step up for me, but I’m going to try and fight for my place and do as well as I can,” said Alli.
It could be very easy for a youngster like Alli to go to a massive club like Tottenham and to quickly become intimidated by the task, which lays before him.
However, he’s seen the examples of Harry Kane and Ryan Mason among others and will know that if he works hard and shows a willingness to learn and adapt, he should eventually get a chance at White Hart Lane.
Pochettino had the guts to make sure that they both got a chance earlier this season and he stuck with them when he could have made a chance, bringing in more experienced options for the middle of his team.
The state of Tottenham’s youth system at the moment is very strong and Pochettino will also have the returning Alex Pritchard to call on in midfield increasing the quality and options at his disposal.
Alli’s job is to hit the ground running when he links up with Spurs for pre-season, hopefully after getting loan side the MK Dons into the Championship.
