Had Pep Guardiola's unstoppable Bayern Munich met their match against Porto? Not exactly.
Having lost the first leg of their quarter-final 3-1, German sports writers queued up to criticise the Bundesliga leaders. These opinions were proved over-eager as Bayern swept the Portuguese team aside with a breathtaking display.
At half-time they led 5-0, an aggregate scoreline of 6-3, and had more or less wrapped up the tie already.
The player who started it all off was Spanish midfielder Thiago Alcantara, who Bayern signed from Barcelona in 2013.
Injuries have troubled his Bayern career since signing for the club, but this performance on the big stage was confirmation he is back to his best.
Thiago, son of World Cup 1994 winner Mazinho, so nearly became a Manchester United player before he eventually signed with Bayern. The Guardian had even reported in July 2013 that they expected Thiago to sign at Old Trafford within days.
HITC reported comments from Spanish football pundit Guillem Balague via Twitter soon after Thiago signed for Bayern, claiming boss David Moyes was unconvinced the former Barcelona ace was cut out for the Premier League.
Moyes could have done with a player of Thiago's talent in midfield last season, and he paid the ultimate price for his transfer market errors when he was fired before even completing a single season.
Seeing the two-time Spain under-21 European Championship winner in action last night evoked strong opinions from Manchester United fans, with Moyes copping plenty of flak.
Here is a look at how they reacted on Twitter...
