Joe Cole has told the Birmingham Mail that he will continue to offer advice to Jack Grealish, should the 19-year-old need it.
Cole has acted as a mentor to Grealish throughout his burgeoning career so far and is enjoying helping the youngster.
The England international believes that Grealish has masses of potential and wants to help him fulfil it by passing on some of the lessons he has learnt in his glittering career.
“I enjoy helping him and I’ll continue to do so if he needs any advice,” he said. “He was brilliant on Sunday [in the FA Cup semi-final win over Liverpool]. That’s his best game for Villa so far. For a young lad to play like that at Wembley is good to see. He’s a big fans’ favourite as well. He’s a young lad but he carries the weight of the fans as well, and he’s only going to get better."
The quotes show a value to having Cole in the Villa squad, despite his lack of first-team chances this season.
Cole has struggled with fitness and made just 14 appearances for Villa this season, but if he can help Grealish to develop then he still has an important role to play.
Grealish looks to be one of Villa's brightest talents, but he will need to keep his feet on the ground as his reputation grows at a rapid rate.
Having Cole by his side will be a help as not only will the 33-year-old be able to offer him guidance off the pitch but, given their similar styles, he should also be able to give Grealish some tips on how to develop his game on it.
