Tottenham Hotspur forward Harry Kane has revealed on the club's official site that the whole team stepped up their efforts in training last week to ensure that their slump did not continue.
Spurs went into their game against Newcastle United following disappointing performances against Burnley and Aston Villa, and Kane said that the whole squad were determined to get back on track last Sunday.
As a result the team decided to train in a more intense manner and it paid off, with Tottenham picking up a 3-1 win against Newcastle which put them back up to sixth in the Premier League table.
“We trained hard and knew we had to put it right," Kane said. "We played well and deserved to win.
“We knew Villa wasn’t good enough last week and we don’t just want the season to fizzle out with a few losses."
Tottenham had looked fatigued over recent weeks so it was a tad surprising that Mauricio Pochettino demanded even more effort in training.
The tactic seemed to work, though, and Spurs will now be hoping that their win over Newcastle can spark a winning run.
The Lilywhites are highly unlikely to make it into the Champions League qualification spaces, but they will be determined to ensure that they finish as high up in the table as possible.
To do so, they will need to maintain the performance levels which they put in against Newcastle, as they have some tough fixtures remaining on their schedule.
