Brendan Rodgers explains the importance of Milk Cup for Liverpool's young players

Liverpool's boss has been speaking about a great chance for a future generation of players to impress.

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has been speaking to the club’s official website about the importance of the Milk Cup for the development of the Reds’ young players.

Liverpool are famed for their nurturing and development of some of the most talented youngsters in the game and their first-team continues to benefit from that. And players at a whole range of age-groups will be looking to impress in the years to come.

The club’s under-15s will be taking part in this summer’s competition and Rodgers believes it is vital for their development.

“In terms of what we are striving to achieve with young players at Anfield, the competition cannot be underestimated,” the Liverpool boss said.

“It gives players the challenge of tournament football in a stimulating environment and at the highest level.”

Those players taking part will have to wait quite a while before they have the chance of first-team football. But having seen the likes of Jordon Ibe, Jon Flanagan and Raheem Sterling break through in recent years, they will know the chances are there if they are good enough…and committed enough.

Steve McManaman is one of a number of players to previously shine in the tournament so Liverpool fans are likely to be keeping a close eye on potential stars of the future.
