Sherwood was appointed the Villa boss in mid-February, and he seems to have turned around the team’s fortunes.
The Villans are in a good position to avoid the drop from the Premier League and have also reached the final of the FA Cup.
Villa got the better of Premier League rivals Liverpool 2-1 in the semi-finals of the prestigious cup competition at London’s Wembley Stadium on Sunday.
Former Arsenal striker Wright was following the game, and he was impressed with the performance of the Villa team.
While making Sherwood his ‘Manager of the Weekend’, Wright highlighted in The Sun what Sherwood did right against Liverpool:
“Sherwood had no fear about chucking in young Jack Grealish, who was outstanding, targeted the right side of Liverpool’s defence, and outfoxed them by effectively playing two number tens," wrote the 51-year-old.
Villa were the better side over the course of the 90 minutes and deservedly booked their place in the final of the FA Cup.
Jack Grealish was truly outstanding, and it is the way that Villa went on about their task that was so refreshing.
Sherwood’s side played with energy, determination and willingness to take the game to the Liverpool defence, and it worked.
On paper, Reds boss Brendan Rodgers has the better players at his disposal, but on the day, it was Sherwood’s tactics that were better.
