A closer look at who could leave Liverpool in the close-season following the latest reports.
A report in the Daily Mail claims up to 10 players could leave Liverpool this summer. But while some of the names are obvious candidates (Kolo Toure, Glen Johnson) and others less so (Martin Skrtel for one) two players have been omitted from the list despite arguably being the most likely of all to wave goodbye.
The fact that neither Luis Alberto nor Iago Aspas are currently at Anfield may have something to do with them not making the list – the pair who only arrived in 2013 seemingly slipping the mind of many.
But the simple fact is neither player appears to have a long-term future at Liverpool, with Alberto making little impact at loan club Malaga and Aspas getting few league chances at Sevilla despite an excellent return of seven goals in 5 Copa del Rey games.
The two players’ moved to Anfield have certainly not gone according to plan and Aspas, at 27, will not want to plan a bit-part any longer than he has to.
At just 22, Alberto has time on his side, but it appears unlikely he will make the grade at Liverpool having failed to embrace a loan move that could have been the making of him.
So yes, plenty of players look set to leave Liverpool this summer, but omitting that duo from the list of candidates seems more like an oversight than an indication of a second chance.
