Tottenham Hotspur returned to winning ways in the Premier League on Sunday when they got the better of Newcastle United 3-1 away from home.
The North London outfit headed into the encounter at St. James’ Park on the back of a 1-0 defeat to Aston Villa at White Hart Lane with their chances of finishing in the top four in tatters.
It was not supposed to be easy for Spurs to win against Newcastle away, but they eventually picked up all three points.
Nacer Chadli put Tottenham in the lead on the half-hour mark with a 25-yard effort, but just a minute into the second period Jack Colback equalised for the Magpies.
However, Christian Eriksen restored Spurs’ one-goal lead with a free kick in the 53rd minute, and then in the final minutes of the encounter Harry Kane secured the points with the visiting team’s third.
While overall it was an encouraging display from Spurs, one of the players who did not please the fans was Erik Lamela.
The 23-year-old Argentina international winger has blown hot and cold this season, and although he provided an assist against Newcastle, the Tottenham supporters were too impressed with his overall performance.
Lamela’s first touch was often poor, and he also conceded possession far too cheaply. Over the course of the 90 minutes, the former AS Roma star took one shot, had a pass accuracy of 82%, created two chances, attempted four dribbles, won 25% of the tackles, and made two interceptions and as many blocks.
Below are the best reactions from Tottenham fans on Twitter on Lamela’s performance against Newcastle.
I'm completely done with Kaboul, Capoue, Lamela, Soldado. All have to depart. Levy to swallow his bride and take car boot sale prices #thfc— Gareth (@GMMJohnson) April 19, 2015
How much did we pay for Lamela who looses possession after just one second? #thfc— ♏K0W (@Mikow_) April 19, 2015
Lamela's genuinely awful. I've never seen a player look so awkward on the ball. 30 million pound. #thfc— Sean (@Tottingham_Sean) April 19, 2015
Lamela has got to be the worst signing we have ever had and that is saying something #thfc— tom mcmahon (@tommoyid) April 19, 2015
Lamela is totally oblivious of what's around him & wants so many touches. How he's playing this whole game is beyond me #thfc— Jon Evans (@JontyEvans) April 19, 2015
