Steve Morison comments on Leeds United's suspended assistant Steve Thompson

Leeds striker Steve Morison has credited Steve Thompson for helping to resurrect his career at the club.

Steve Morison has highlighted the impact suspended assistant coach Steve Thompson has made this season, in an interview with BBC Radio Leeds.

Thompson was controversially suspended by sporting director Nicola Salerno at the beginning of the month, and Leeds United have gone onto record five consecutive losses.

Morison netted his first goal of the season at the weekend, the opener in a 2-1 defeat at The Valley against Charlton Athletic.

The Welshman suggests if it was not for Thompson, then he or midfielder Luke Murphy may not be in the team at all.

He said: "The first thing he said to me was, why are you not involved? I said I don't know, may be you can answer those questions. he said to me he said it to Murph."

Elaborating on the situation the two players found themselves in, Morison explained how neither were even spending their weekends with the match day squad.

He added: "We was spending our Saturday mornings training at Thorp Arch then rest of the weekends with our family. "What any one can say about a footballer, the one thing they want to do is play football."

Morison's last comments may be taken as a not so thinly veiled dig at six of his teammates, who pulled out of the trip to Charlton at the weekend, adding to the behind the scenes chaos at the club.

The striker may one have one goal to his name this season but he made a big impact in the early part of 2015, leading the line effectively while midfielders chipped in to help the team on a winning run which was until recently made them one of the top four form teams in the Championship.

That all ended with Steve Thompson's suspension, and even if there is no comeback for the former Blackpool assistant boss, Morison's comments about how he instigated a return for Luke Murphy and himself illustrates the sizeable impact he had on the club's season and Neil Redfearn's approach.
