Well-known news presenter Richard Keys has suggested on his official website that Newcastle United have “scary” times ahead this season.
The former Sky Sports presenter made the comments following Newcastle’s 3-1 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur at St. James’ Park in the Premier League on Sunday.
“It's a crying shame what's going on there,” Keys wrote on his official website. “I’m sure they'll be safe, but after seven defeats in eight - and only two wins in 14 under John Carver - it's going to get scary.”
Keys claimed on social networking site Twitter on Sunday:
Toon aren't safe yet. Lost 7/8. Swansea and L'ter next. WBA to come. And QPR. Trouble.— Richard Keys (@richardajkeys) April 19, 2015
Are Newcastle United in danger of getting relegated?
Not so long ago, it looked as if Newcastle will finish in mid-table in the Premier League, but things are now quite different.
At the moment, John Carver’s side are 14th in the league table with 35 points from 33 matches, just seven points above the relegation zone.
The Magpies have not won a game since the end of February and are on a losing run of six matches.
The performance of the Newcastle players has also been poor, while injuries and suspensions to key figures have added to the problem.
Next weekend’s round of matches in the Premier League will be hugely important for Newcastle. If they lose at home to Swansea City and results elsewhere go against them, then there is a good chance that they will be dragged into the relegation dogfight in the final month of the season.
