Manchester United fans react on Twitter to Robin van Persie's under-21 performance v Leicester

Manchester United striker Robin van Persie has stepped up his comeback from injury.

Manchester United striker Robin van Persie stepped up his comeback from injury last night by playing 60 minutes of an under-21 game.

The Dutch international has not played for the first team since February, but featured in the under-21 draw with Leicester City.

He played a part in United's goal, providing an assist for former Exeter City youngster Sean Goss to net his first goal for the under-21s.

Van Persie was joined by Adnan Januzaj in the starting line-up, but Rafael da Silva did not have an evening to remember, substituted after just eight minutes after picking up an injury.

Out of the team during United's winning run of late up until the weekend, questions have been raised as to Van Persie's long term future at the club, with just one year remaining on his contract.

Yet with six games left this season he still has a chance to show what he is capable of and quell any doubters heading into the summer.

With United coming off the back of a defeat to Chelsea, his comeback could be just the tonic to kickstart the side back to the winning form they showed heading into the game at Stamford Bridge.

Notably there was no hysteria surrounding Van Persie's appearance at Leicester as there was when Radamel Falcao featured against Spurs for the under-21s last month.

Here is a look at how United fans did react to Van Persie's impact...
