Exclusive: Glenn Hoddle speaks out on Jack Wilshere's Arsenal future

Jack Wilshere Press Conference - 18/02/2014

Tottenham legend Glenn Hoddle says Jack Wilshere must stay at Arsenal if he is to be successful.

Former England boss Glenn Hoddle has exclusively told HITC that Jack Wilshere must stay at Arsenal and can get back to his best.

Wilshere had been linked last month by The Star with a summer transfer to Manchester City. A recent article in broadsheet newspaper The Times by Matt Hughes urged the midfielder to leave Arsenal for the sake of his career.

Hoddle is not of the same mindset, and is positive about Wilshere's chances of reaching the level he was once touted to, telling HITC via e-mail that if he can stay fit he will get back to his best.

He said: "I disagree with that (suggestion Wilshere should move on), I think he’s at a club that play in the same style Jack plays and whatever point he is at to hit the high point we are expecting he has to remain injury free."

Hoddle added that even if Wilshere switched clubs, the issues regarding his fitness would remain, and Arsenal need to look at how to try to prevent his fitness struggles.

"So I think that would not matter whatever club he is at, I think he would be able to perform but they’ve got to really look at his training and the way he plays.

"They need to make sure he doesn’t get injured, when you’re injured for a long period of time that sort of knocks your confidence. I think there is much more to see from Jack Wilshere."

Wilshere has not featured for Arsenal yet in 2015, having suffered an ankle injury against Manchester United in November. Prior to that point he had been in the midst of his best form for years for Arsenal and England, and the timing was a cruel blow.

He is on the comeback trail, having captained the club's under-21 side last week and been an unused substitute for the FA Cup semi-final at Wembley against Reading on Saturday, and there is a strong chance he will have a part to play for the Gunners before the end of the season.

Glenn Hoddle is CityIndex's Celeb Trader for the month of April. To find out more visit his page on their website.
