Aston Villa secured their place in the final of the FA Cup this season with a 2-1 victory over Liverpool at London’s Wembley Stadium on Sunday.
The Villans were the ‘underdogs’ heading into the semi-final tie, but it was Tim Sherwood’s side who picked up the win and booked a place in the final of the prestigious competition.
One of the key players for Villa at Wembley was Christian Benteke, with the Belgium international striker restoring parity in the 36th minute.
The 24-year-old has recently returned to form under Sherwood and has been banging in the goals left, right and centre.
The former Genk star was a menace to the Liverpool defence in the tie, and he was involved in Villa’s second and what proved to be the winning goal.
The Villans are not entirely safe from relegation yet, but with Benteke in red-hot form, they have a much better chance of avoiding the drop from the Premier League now than they had a couple of months ago.
Following the win against Liverpool, Villa fans took to social networking site Twitter to have their say on the performance of Benteke in the semi-final encounter.
The look on Skrtels face when he squared up to a villa player and realised that it was Benteke. He wasn't long about backing down #avfc— Fran (@Goobledygook29) April 19, 2015
Benteke at the final whistle! No-one can tell me he doesn't care about this great football club #avfc— Matthew Sabin (@MattBrumSabin9) April 19, 2015
