Kevin De Bruyne continued his wonderful season for Wolfsburg on Sunday as he scored his side’s goal as they were held 1-1 by Schalke.
Wolfsburg were hoping to keep their 10-point gap over Bayer Leverkusen after they had beaten Hannover 4-0 on Saturday.
After a goalless first half, the away side took the lead on the 53rd minute when young Leroy Sané ran unchallenged for around 70 yards before cutting on to his left foot and poking post Diego Benaglio, much to the shock of the Volkswagen Arena.
With only 12 minutes to go, it was up to DevBruyne to rescue the home side. After a strong run from substitute Daniel Caligiuri down the right, he slipped a square pass to the Belgian and he picked his spot from the edge of the box.
De Bruyne was easily the best player on the park, the 23-year-old was a constant threat and he forced Ralf Fahrmann to make a number of good saves with five of his six shots on target.
He is not only three goals behind Bas Dost on 10 goals, but it will be his 17 assists in the league that have caught the eye.
There are five games remaining in the Bundesliga season, with Wolfsburg still seven points ahead of Leverkusen in second place.
After impressing the Europa League this year, they will be hoping qualification to the Champions League will help them possibly keep hold of their talented Belgian.
