PSV Eindhoven’s technical director Marcel Brands has been speaking in comments published by Goal.com about the future of alleged Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur target Memphis Depay (who has previously been linked to both clubs by the Daily Mail).
The Netherlands international added yet another goal to his tally this weekend, scoring a stunning free-kick in PSV’s 4-1 victory against Heerenveen and helping them secure the Eredivisie title as a result.
Depay has now scored an impressive 26 goals in 37 matches this season, and he also has six assists in that time.
Both United and Tottenham could do with some quality additions in wide areas, and while a recent report from De Telegraaf claimed Spurs had bowed out of the race for the player, they would be wise to try their hand just in case.
Following PSV’s triumph, Brands was quoted as saying, “There is serious interest (in Depay) from big clubs.
“If it comes to a deal, he must make the choice. Then it’s up to us to come out with such a club.”
At 21, and with a contract until 2018, Depay will not come cheap if he does indeed move on, and while United manager louis van Gaal knows him well from his time as Holland coach, there could yet be a surprise twist given just how many clubs are likely to be interested in the player.
