Memphis Depay has long been linked with a move to Manchester United, with the Daily Mail among those linking the free-scoring Dutchman with a transfer to Old Trafford.
And following comments from PSV Eindhoven’s technical director Marcel Brands claiming there is serious interest from some of Europe’s top clubs in the winger, could he just have enjoyed the moment that enables him to leave his homeland on a high?
After all, Depay’s 26th goal of an outstanding season came in a 4-1 win against Heerenveen that secured PSV the Eredivisie title and at 21 he could see this as the perfect time to move on to a new challenge.
In comments published by Goal.com, Brands said, “We have received a phone call from Manchester United, although no formal talks have taken place for now.”
But with United manager Louis van Gaal knowing Depay well from his time as the coach of the Netherlands, and with the Premier League side in need of quality additions on the wing, it would be no surprise if the player moved to Old Trafford.
The pictures capturing his delight at a title triumph speak of a player whose talent is being rewarded with achievements, and at United he could continue that habit in fine style.
