Peter Lovenkrands questions Moussa Sissoko’s leadership credentials

Newcastle United midfielder Moussa Sissoko will miss today’s Premier League clash due to suspension.

Peter Lovenkrands has suggested in The Chronicle that Newcastle United midfielder Moussa Sissoko lacks leadership skills.

The 25-year-old will miss today’s Premier League clash against Tottenham Hotspur at St. James’ Park due to suspension.

The France international was sent off in the Magpies’ match against Liverpool away from home at Anfield.

Former Newcastle attacker Lovenkrands believes that Sissoko will be a miss for John Carver’s side today and questions his leadership credentials.

“He (Sissoko) may be frustrated, but if you’re captain of the team you have to lead by example,” Lovenkrands wrote in The Chronicle.

“The team has been depleted because the first captain has been suspended so for the vice- skipper to be red-carded is just not right.

“You have to show leadership in a different way as captain. Not in a way where you get sent off.”

Sissoko has a bad disciplinary record. The Frenchman has been shown the yellow card eight times and the red cards twice in 30 Premier League appearances so far this season.

Last season, the former Toulouse star picked up eight yellow cards in 35 league appearances for Newcastle.

Newcastle will head into today’s match placed 14th in the Premier League table with 35 points from 32 matches, just seven points above the relegation zone.

The Magpies have lost their last five league matches and are in danger of getting dragged into the relegation dogfight.
