Liverpool suffered a 2-1 defeat to Aston Villa in the semi-finals of the FA Cup this evening.

Michael Owen has been singing the praises of Aston Villa’s performance against Liverpool on Sportlobster.com.

Villa got the better of their Premier League rivals 2-1 in the semi-finals of the FA Cup at London’s Wembley Stadium today.

Owen, a former Liverpool striker, was co-commentating on the game, and after full time, he praised the shift put in by Tim Sherwood’s players.

The former Manchester United star also suggested that Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers will be making changes to his squad in the summer transfer window.

“Brilliant performance from Aston Villa,” the 35-year-old wrote on Sportlobster.com. “Delph ran the show. Tim Sherwood has turned their season around.

“Long grind for Liverpool until the end of the season now. I'd imagine Brendan Rodgers will be plotting a few changes for next season already.”

Villa are struggling for survival in the Premier League, while Liverpool are aiming for a top-four finish - theoretically anyway.

However, at Wembley, the Villa players showed more energy and determination than their Liverpool counterparts.

The Villans could still get relegated and Liverpool could still claim a place in next season’s Champions League, but based on today’s performance, neither prospect looks likely.

Villa will return to Premier League action next weekend when they face defending English champions Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium.

Meanwhile, Liverpool will take on West Bromwich Albion away from home at The Hawthorns.
