While Newcastle United were preparing for their Premier League clash with Tottenham Hotspur this weekend, one of the Magpies’ former stars pulled off a piece of skill that quickly had social media buzzing with appreciation.
Obafemi Martins played 104 times for Newcastle, scoring 35 goals and setting up an additional eight, but the 30-year-old (yes, he really is still that young), showed what he can do in excellent fashion on Sunday.
Playing for his current club Seattle Sounders, the Nigerian collected a long-ball with his left foot, immediately befuddling the two Colorado defenders who appeared to have the situation under control.
He then ran through on goal and calmly dispatched the ball past the helpless 'keeper, making it 31 goals in 64 games for the Sounders.
Martins rarely hit the heights at Newcastle, showing only glimpses of what he was capable of, but it is clear that he is enjoying a resurgence in the USA, dazzling his fans and the wider world with his latest piece of breathtaking skill.
