A Celtic star has been reflecting on Bhoys players past and present.
Celtic captain Scott Brown has been speaking to the club’s official website about the Bhoys’ forward Leigh Griffiths, mentioning him in the same breath as a former striker who netted 33 times while at Celtic Park.
Leigh Griffiths has impressed for Ronny Deila’s side this season, scoring four goals in his last two league games and 15 in all competitions so far.
Next up for Griffiths and Celtic is the Scottish Cup semi-final clash with Inverness Caledonian Thistle, as Deila’s men continue their push for a potential treble, and the 24-year-old front-man is likely to be key to their efforts.
Speaking in the build-up to the match, Brown said, “I have played with different strikers. Big Jan (Vennegoor of Hesselink) was totally different to Leigh but they are both exceptional at what they do.”
The former Holland international made 89 appearances for Celtic, scoring 33 times and setting up an additional 10 goals, and while he was not everyone’s cup of tea, the simple fact is he knew how to get the best from himself and his skill-set, something that can also be said of Griffiths.
With 22 goals already for Celtic, there is no reason Griffiths could not go on to become one of their goal-scoring greats if he is given the chance to do so in the years ahead.
