Arsenal poised to overtake Manchester United success

FA Cup

Arsenal are one game away from overtaking Manchester United's FA Cup success.

Arsenal are one game away from becoming the singularly most successful side in the history of the FA Cup.

The Gunners are currently evenly matched with Manchester United on 11 cup wins each.

Having qualified for this year's final, in which they will play Aston Villa on May 30, they can stand alone as the side with more FA Cup trophy wins than any other English club.

Manchester United last won the cup in 2004 against Millwall, with Arsenal beating them a year later in the 2005 final, and before ending their own trophy drought last year by defeating Hull City in the final.

The Gunners beat Manchester United in this year's quarter-final, winning 2-1 at Wembley with ex-Red Devil Danny Welbeck scoring the winner. A brace from Alexis Sanchez took them past a spirited Reading side at the weekend in the semi-final.

It would also be the second time Arsenal would have retained the trophy - and the second occasion under Arsene Wenger, having done so in 2002 and 2003. Only Tottenham have done so twice previously, in 1961 and 1962 and 1981 and 1982.
