Premier League's best striker since March - tops Chelsea and Spurs hot-shots

Arsenal’s Olivier Giroud has outshone his Chelsea, Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur rivals over the past six weeks.

Since the turn of the year, Arsenal have been the Premier League’s best team and striker Olivier Giroud the best in his position over the past two months.

The France international missed the first few months of the season through injury and his absence coincided with his side’s often sub-par performances.

During the early part of the campaign, Chelsea's Diego Costa and Manchester City’s Sergio Aguero appeared to be competing in a personal goal duel as both found the net with impressive regularity.

The South American stars were by far and away the Premier League’s top marksmen throughout autumn, yet winter subsequently belonged to Tottenham Hotspur youngster Harry Kane.

The Spurs ace began scoring for fun and soon competed at the top of the Premier League scoring charts - his fabulous form later earning him senior international recognition with England.

However, since March, Giroud has helped lead the Gunners to a stunning eight-game winning streak through a number of important goals and excellent performances.

As per the table provided by Opta Stats, the 28-year-old has outshone his rivals in terms of goals scored, shots on target and chances created per Premier League encounter since 1 March.

The former Montpellier man is currently in the midst of the best run of form of his career, and his goals have prompted many to speculate as to whether his side can catch Chelsea at the top of the table.

For so long it appeared as though the Blues and Manchester City would challenge until the very end, but Aguero’s so-called barren run and City’s dreadful form has allowed the Gunners to surge above them in the table.

As far as the top goal scorer table goes, despite Giroud's best efforts of late he appears destined to finished behind his rivals as Costa, Aguero and Kane all share top spot with 19 goals apiece.
