Liverpool’s Philippe Coutinho reacts to John Terry’s PFA nomination

Chelsea skipper John Terry voted for Liverpool playmaker Philippe Coutinho in the PFA Player of the Year poll.

Liverpool star Philippe Coutinho cites hearing of Chelsea skipper John Terry nominating him as the PFA Player of the Year as wonderful and really pleasing coming from a top player, the Mirror report.

As we enter the business end of the season, the time has arrived where the Premier League’s leading stars are thrust into the limelight amid the prestigious club and players’ Player of the Year awards.

In what is normally a best-kept secret, Chelsea’s John Terry went against tradition and posted his nominations on his official Instagram page – later picked up by the Mirror.

Unable to vote for his teammates, the Blues skipper went against popular opinion – perhaps intentionally as Jamie Carragher explains in his Daily Mail blog – and voted for Coutinho over favourite Harry Kane.

Nonetheless, it was a valid selection and one which the Reds playmaker admits is particularly pleasing coming from a player he holds in such high regard.

“I was really pleased when I heard that news because it was coming from such a great player. It was wonderful and pleases me a lot,” he explained.

While Eden Hazard, Alexis Sanchez and Tottenham Hotspur’s Harry Kane are the overwhelming favourites, Coutinho has impressed enough this season to at least be in contention.

As per the table provided by Opta Stats, the 22-year-old playmaker has been a constant threat to the Reds’ Premier League rivals this season.

Aside from his four goals and four assists, Coutinho has recorded on average 1.48 key passes, three take-ons and 5.38 ball recoveries per league encounter so far this season.

He may not be a frontrunner for the overall Premier League POTY prize, but he has certainly left a lasting impression on his own supporters and will rightly be favourite to land Liverpool’s top player awards.
