Solano: If Newcastle had just five points less, relegation would be a huge worry

The Newcastle United midfielder feels the club's current form would send a 'panic' throughout Tyneside.

Nolberto Solano would fear the worst for Newcastle on current form if they had just five points less at this stage of the season, according to the Chronicle.

The former Magpie believes the St James' Park outfit are 'really lucky' to have secured a suitable amount of points that should see them stay in the Premier League.

Clearly, that was behind Mike Ashley's thinking to place someone like John Carver in charge of the first team until the end of the season. One would hope anyway...

But just five points less and Solano believes 'panic' would set in at Newcastle and, based on current form, you wouldn't back against the Magpies crumbling under the pressure.

Solano said: "They have nothing to lose in some ways. Newcastle have been really lucky because they have points in the bag and I think they will be safe.

"If they had even five points less they would be right in the relegation mire and then panic would set in because Newcastle is a big a club and they shouldn’t be near the Championship."

The former St James' Park man also lambasted the lack of leadership within the senior side and sympathised with supporters who are planning to stage a mass boycott of the Newcastle - Tottenham Hotspur game this Sunday afternoon.

After the Spurs clash, the Magpies host Swansea City in the Premier League. Where will the misery end for Carver's men?
