Newcastle United midfielder Siem de Jong has suggested on social networking site Twitter that he will not feature against Tottenham Hotspur tomorrow.
The attacking midfielder has not played a competitive game for Newcastle for the past eight months, and it seems that his return to action will have to wait for at least one more week.
The Netherlands international played for the Magpies’ Under-21 side against their Derby County counterparts earlier this month and was expected to be on the substitutes’ bench for tomorrow’s Premier League encounter against Spurs.
However, De Jong has suggested on Twitter tonight that he will miss out against the North London outfit.
De Jong joined Newcastle from Dutch giants Ajax in the summer of 2014 and was expected to be a big player for the Magpies.
However, a thigh injury during training in September followed by a collapsed lung has prevented the 26-year-old from doing so.
Newcastle will head into tomorrow’s encounter placed 14th in the Premier League table with 35 points from 32 matches, just seven points above the relegation zone.
