Dougie Freedman says Paterson's form is simply not good enough to justify a start.
BBC Nottingham Sport confirmed that Freedman has left Paterson out of the recent squad for a tie with Watford because he was not showing the requisite form to be playing regularly.
The 23-year-old winger has only started two games since February and is clearly not currently in Freedman's plans. At the moment the Forest boss seems to be preferring to use the likes of Chris Burke and Ben Osborn - with Paterson missing out.
The 23-year-old arrived at Forest from Walsall in the summer of 2013 and looked to be a real steal from the club. However this season his playing time has more than halved. It is certainly feeling like a long time ago since he inspired Forest to a 5-0 win over West Ham United in the FA Cup in January 2014.
Paterson will be hoping to impress Freedman before the end of the season as the Scot, who penned a two-year deal this week, is here to stay.
Which could mean the end of his Forest playing days.
