Manchester United round-up: Early team news; De Gea on key improvements

Old Trafford

A select round-up of the latest news relating to Manchester United

Manchester United travel to Stamford Bridge today to take on a Chelsea side looking to move closer to a likely Premier League crown.

That said, United will have other ideas and following their fine wins against Tottenham Hotspur, Liverpool, Aston Villa and Manchester City, Louis van Gaal’s side will be quietly confident of continuing their excellent run.

In early team news, the BBC reports that United are without a whole host of vital players, including Daley Blind, Phil Jones, Marcos Rojo and Michael Carrick.

With Jonny Evans still suspended it means Chris Smalling, Paddy McNair and Tyler Blackett are the only fit senior centre-backs available for United.

That said, Chelsea are without Diego Costa so United’s back-line may not come under the pressure it otherwise would have.

In other news, United goalkeeper David de Gea has been speaking to MUTV about his side’s progress.

In comments later published by the club’s official website, the Spanish international said, “I think a team is built on a sound defence and not conceding many goals and that’s what we’re managing to do at the moment.

“We’re defending better and bringing the ball out from the back better too.”
