The goalkeeper has reportedly been on Liverpool's radar for some time.
Liverpool were linked with a move for Sporting Lisbon goalkeeper Rui Patricio this week. The news was reported by A Bola, as seconded by the Express, earlier this week that Liverpool were keen on bringing in the Portuguese international.
The news came as a surprise considering the recent form of Simon Mignolet. The Belgian had struggled for form for much of the current season, but since the turn of the year he has been in great nick.
However it would appear that Liverpool are still contemplating a move for another big name stopper.
But considering the price he would cost, that is likely to change.
It is reported by Portuguese source O Jogo that Patricio has a fairly whopping, but typically Sporting Lisbon, release clause in the region of €40 million.
That would be a massive increase on the £11 million that the Express claimed it would take Liverpool to get hold of the player this summer.
Liverpool might indeed move for another keeper, but the likelihood is a young stopper will come in to play second fiddle to Mignolet, rather than splashing out on another international class custodian such as Patricio.
This deal looks dead before it even got off the ground.
