It is three years since Samed Yesil joined Liverpool. And yet there has been no trace of the young striker at the club's famous ground. Rarely has Yesil even frequented Anfield let alone been given the opportunity to produce something on the club's home turf.
A large part of that, of course, is the German's terrible luck with injuries.
But the Liverpool youngster made a rather successful injury comeback last night, scoring twice for the Reds' Under-21s side in a 3-1 win over Tottenham Hotspur.
And, while the home fans were expressing their frustration with their captain for the day Etienne Capoue at White Hart Lane, Liverpool fans were simply delighted for and with Yesil.
Is there any chance for the young forward to make his mark at Anfield in the coming years? There is certainly a window of opportunity. Fabio Borini, Rickie Lambert and, of course, Mario Balotelli have all serially underwhelmed since joining Liverpool. Daniel Sturridge, meanwhile, has struggled to stay fit this season.
Next term, then, should Yesil be able to stay fit himself, the 20-year-old could be given plenty of first-team opportunities alongside incumbent Divock Origi. If he takes them like last night, he'll have no problems whatsoever. Here's what Liverpool supporters made of his display on Twitter:
Samid Yesil is back with 2 goals for the U21s tonight. He’s deserves a bit of luck after that injury. #LFC
