Everton boss Roberto Martinez in January - 'Leighton Baines is our penalty taker'

Everton fans are growing furious at the penalty taking situation at Goodison Park.

What has happened to the penalty taking situation at Everton?

It used to be a simple issue. Everton win a penalty, Leighton Baines picks it up, scores, end of story.

But recently Baines has seemingly stepped away from penalty taking duties. He missed the first of his career earlier in the season, David De Gea stopping his effort at Old Trafford in October.

In November he scored against Sunderland, but in recent times he has stopped taking them.

Romelu Lukaku has scored a couple, but today, Ross Barkley stepped up instead and missed as well. It is becoming an embarrassing situation.

It comes after Kevin Mirallas took away a penalty from Baines in January. Mirallas missed that effort against West Brom and Baines has not taken one since.

Back then Everton manager Roberto Martinez stated, as reported by the Daily Mail: "Kevin had been in the best moment of his season. If he had scored, this wouldn’t have been an issue.

"The hardest aspect is to present yourself to take the penalty. Leighton Baines is our penalty taker. He has got an incredible record."

It seems Baines has taken a back-step from penalty kicks, which is shocking if true.

He is one of the best in the Premier League from 12 yards and a senior player in the Everton team. It is time for Martinez to make it abundantly clear that Baines takes penalty kicks for Everton, nobody else.
