Leeds United have failed to return to winning ways in the Championship, as they went down 2-1 to Charlton Athletic away from home at The Valley this afternoon.
Hosts Charlton had two chances in quick succession in the opening minutes, with Frederic Bulot and Igor Vetokele going close.
Luke Murphy of Leeds saw his attempt from close range go high midway through the first half, and he had a shot from distance saved just moments later.
Just before the half-hour mark, Billy Sharp failed to keep his header from a Sam Byram cross on target, before Charlton’s Igor Vetokele hit the Leeds post with a shot from inside the penalty box.
Leeds got a great chance to take the lead in the 35th minute when Tal Ben Haim brought down Byram inside the Charlton penalty box, but Sharp failed to successfully convert the spot kick.
However, the West Yorkshire outfit surged ahead five minutes before half time through Steve Morison, who turned in Luke Murphy’s delivery from close range.
Murphy and Alex Mowatt could have added to Leeds’s advantage in the opening minutes of the second half, before Rodolph Austin had a shot saved just past the hour mark.
Charlton found the equaliser in the 75th minute when Tony Watt fired home with his right foot after connecting with a Johann Berg Gudmundsson pass.
Just four minutes later Leeds goalkeeper Stuart Taylor brought down Vetokele inside the Leeds penalty box, and Yoni Buyens made no mistake from 12 yards.
