Speaking in the French press, AS Monaco defender Fabinho has said that he is happy to remain at the principality club for next season.

Brazilian defender Fabinho has enjoyed two excellent campaigns at AS Monaco, which has led to the Daily Mirror linking him with a move to Arsenal this summer.

Speaking to Football365 in France this weekend, the right-back has revealed that he is hoping to be part of Monaco’s squad next season.

Fabinho finds himself in a strange position. He has enjoyed plenty of success at Monaco, helping his club past Arsenal into the quarter-finals of the Champions League, but he is only on loan.

After spells in Spain with Real Madrid and their second team, he moved to Portuguese side Rio Ave, but it has been on loan in Ligue 1 that he has really blossomed.

Asked if he would be part of the Monaco squad next season, he said: “I don’t know, but I hope so.”

Then he was asked about the number of clubs that were interested in him, and if he was aware of it: “I read about it in a newspaper, but nobody has said anything directly to me. For now, I'm focused on Monaco. I do not know much about that side of it.”

Fabinho was included in the Brazil squad for the recent friendlies against France and Chile, but although he didn’t make his debut, he is happy to be part of the conversation.

He added: “Now they talk more about me in Brazil. But I think there, I'm not very well known.”

Only on loan this season, it is not up to Monaco where he will play next season. If Arsenal’s interest is genuine, it is Rio Ave and his agent that will decide his future.

Monaco will hope that he is back with them for 2015/16, and if the player wants to stay, that is perhaps half the battle.
