The centre-backs are both out of contract in the summer.
There is no doubting the fact that this season has been disappointing for Everton fans. The Toffees expected much for the new campaign after a promising 2013-14 under roberto Martinez but it has largely been a season to forget.
With that in mind, change is afoot in the summer.
That does not just mean players coming in, but players going out.
Alcaraz has never looked good enough for the club. His recent horror show against Dynamo Kiev in the Europa League still haunts the Everton faithful.
Distin has been a stalwart at the back but his age has finally caught up with him. His recovery pace, his best asset in the past, appears to have gone and that leaves him looking out of his depth more often than not.
The likelihood is at least one of the players will be gone in the summer. So who should Everton keep? Alcaraz, Distin, or neither. Many an Evertonian may indeed opt for the latter.
