Arsenal were guilty of starting sluggishly in big games last season, quickly finding themselves with a mountain to climb in big fixtures with games against Chelsea and Liverpool away from home just two examples.
“We have stronger starts now than we did last season. We have learned from back then,” said Wenger.
The problem with starting games on the back foot is that it invites pressure from the opposition and leaves clubs with a mountain to climb.
Arsenal were making life difficult for themselves at times last season and placing extra pressure on the club’s attack, but they have turned things around.
A good example of where they have learned their lesson from last season is the efficient way they played away at Manchester City in the Premier League. They also started the FA Cup game against Manchester United superbly.
Arsenal will be the heavy favourites for their match against Reading this weekend and Wenger needs to ensure there is no complacency in his team at the start of the game.
Reading have nothing to lose and everything to gain, but Arsenal an destroy the Championship team if they defend well early on and then gradually take control of the game with their creative and attacking talent.
