Celtic manager Ronny Deila has given the Glasgow Evening Times a return date for experienced midfielder Charlie Mulgrew.
The versatile 29-year-old has been out of action with a knee problem, but Deila expects him to be back in first team training next week.
“He is further ahead and is expected to join training with us next week so hopefully he will get some games before the end of the season,” said Deila.
Mulgrew will supply his boss with a positive option in the middle of his team, offering something different to the players who have been driving the team towards a treble in recent weeks.
Celtic still have two competitions they need to win and Deila could use Mulgrew as an impact player in key games to freshen things up and to give the team’s opposition something a bit different to think about.
It’s going to be difficult for Mulgrew to force his way back into the picture because Deila has a very efficient and settled combination of players with Nir Bitton, Scott Brown and Stefan Johansen his key midfield trio at the moment.
Kris Commons is also another good option that the Norwegian can have in the middle of the team.
All Mulgrew can do is train hard and show the boss why he deserves to be in the team. It’s then a case of cashing in on that chance when it comes.
