More than 32,000 Aston Villa fans will be making the trip to Wembley for Sunday afternoon’s FA Cup semi-final against Liverpool, including Tom McGowan, thanks to his “hero” of a grandad.
On Friday morning, Tom tweeted out a photo of a letter he had been sent by his grandad, in which he revealed that he had managed to snap up a last-minute ticket after “queuing up for hours and hours in cold, wet pouring rain”.
Although his grandad went on to rumble himself, revealing that he had only had to queue up for 90 minutes in “lovely sunshine”, that failed to make him any less of a hero in Tom’s eyes, who will now be in the Wembley crowd to cheer on Tim Sherwood’s side at the weekend.
The odds aren’t in Villa’s favour, with Liverpool winning six straight FA Cup meetings between the two sides and losing just one of their last nine semi-final appearances, but Sherwood’s men can take inspiration from their 1-0 win at Anfield earlier in the season under the now-departed Paul Lambert.
If they can produce a repeat performance then Tom’s grandad might just end up queuing for a second time in the hope of landing one or more tickets for the final.
