The strength and depth of Chelsea’s youth academy setup has been further showcased this week after striker Patrick Bamford was announced as one of three nominees for the Championship Player of the Year Award.
On loan at promotion hopefuls Middlesbrough this term, the 21-year-old striker has scored 17 goals in 36 Championship outings for the Teessiders.
Currently fourth in the Championship standings, Boro remain in the hunt for a top-two finish with the north east side just two points adrift of leaders Bournemouth with three games of the normal season still to play.
A goalscorer last time out in a 2-1 victory over play-off pushing Wolves, Bamford previously thrived during a loan stint at Derby County.
The Chelsea loanee managed eight goals in 21 league outings with the Rams during his temporary stay at Pride Park.
Prior to that, Bamford spent time with MK Dons - shortly after being snapped up by Chelsea from Nottingham Forest - and could look to seal another loan move away from Stamford Bridge next season, though this time around it could be with a fellow Premier League outfit.
As well as scoring regularly in the Championship this term, the forward has also managed to find the net in the FA Cup for Middlesbrough, helping Aitor Karanka's men to a 2-0 victory over Manchester City in the fourth round.
