Fans will be pleased to hear John Carver’s revelation on how Coloccini has been spending his time.
Coloccini has spent the last three Newcastle losses on the sidelines due to the red card he picked up against Everton, and John Carver has told the Shields Gazette how he is spending his time.
The temporary head coach said: “He’s worked extremely hard over the time he has been suspended – he’s not been given any extra time off. He has actually done more, which is important, so he will be fit and ready for it.
“He has been with us, and other than the game at the weekend, he has been at every game.”
Considering it appeared as if there was a level of discontent around Newcastle’s squad since Carver’s appointment, the knowledge that Coloccini has been involved with the squad is promising.
The Argentine captain was sent off in the Magpies loss to Everton, and he has missed the following three losses which have seen the Tyneside club fall towards the relegation places.
He is back in contention this weekend, as Newcastle host Spurs at St James’ Park, and he is set to captain the squad again. With his character and ability, Carver will need Coloccini to be back at his best if the Toon are to have any chance of survival, and it is great to hear that he has been working extra hard to get to top form.
It has appeared as if Coloccini does not want to be on Tyneside any longer following some questionable performances this term, and his show of devotion during his suspension - he could have headed back to Argentina - will increase the spirits of his fellow teammates.
Coloccini’s return may not be enough to keep them in the top flight, but it will certainly mean Newcastle go down fighting.
