Celtic boss Ronny Deila is said to have been impressed by the reports he has received on Argentine striker Sergio Araujo.

A report in The Express claims that Ronny Deila had Las Palmas striker Sergio Araujo watched in January and is now looking to follow up his interest and bring the forward to Celtic Park.

Arauio would not come cheap and any potential move – be it a loan or permanent deal – could cost Celtic as much as £3m for the 5ft 11in forward.

The 23-year-old is on-loan at the Spanish second division club and is still contracted to Boca Juniors - who he hasn’t made an appearance for, instead gaining all of his experience from loan moves.

The Argentine spent a season on-loan with Barcelona B, scoring seven goals in 15 matches, before taking in another temporary spell at Tigre in Argentina. His strike rate at his current club is 16 goals in 32 league appearances, working out at a ratio of a goal every two games.

The young Argentine has represented his country at U17, U20 and U23 level, and has scored goals at every age group as he has progressed through the international set up.

Celtic will be in need of a striker next season with John Guidetti unlikely to return once his loan spell is completed, leaving Deila with Leigh Griffiths and Stefan Scepovic, the latter not impressing since his move from Sporting Gijon, scoring only twice in the league and twice in the cup this season.

As Deila plans an assault on the Champions League qualifiers, striking options will be at the forefront of his thoughts, along with trying to keep his star players such as Virgil van Dijk and Stefan Johansen, who are said to have been generating interest with their impressive performances this season.
