After Lees' success, there's another Leeds star Wednesday should attempt to sign

Sheffield Wednesday should try and make a move for Leeds United midfielder Rodolph Austin, with his contract running out.

When Sheffield Wednesday signed Tom Lees from Leeds United on a free transfer there were few complaints made by those around Elland Road.

Many felt that Lees wasn't up to the standard required to represent Leeds and were not too disappointed when he moved to their Yorkshire rivals.

Since departing Leeds, the centre-back has been a revelation, though, and has played a crucial role in Wednesday's season.

Lees has been a commanding influence at the heart of the Owls' defence and looks to be an established member of their first-team now.

It is an exciting position for Lees to be in as he is now at a club seemingly heading in the right direction, following a takeover from Dejphon Chansiri, and Wednesday will be one of the favourites for promotion next season.

Stuart Gray's side have money to spend this summer and they could find that looking to Elland Road works out well for them again.

At the moment Leeds are in need of cutting costs, due to their failure to comply with Financial Fair Play regulations, and it has put a number of their players' futures in doubt.

The Whites' youngsters, who have all been so impressive this term, have been linked with Premier League moves recently by the Mirror, but Wednesday could look to bring in a more experienced member of Leeds' current team.

Rodolph Austin's contract at Elland Road expires at the end of the campaign and there has been no indication that he will be offered a new deal as yet.

Although Neil Redfearn commented yesterday saying that Leeds should offer the 29-year-old an extension to his current deal, the board's feelings over the central midfielder's future remain unknown.

It means that Wednesday should capitalise on that uncertainty and look to take him to Hillsborough for next season.

The Owls need to renovate their current squad and fine greater more attacking intent - and they could do that by signing Austin.

The Jamaican has Championship experience and his pace and power could slot in well with Wednesday's system.

Gray demands that his team are hard-working and structured and Austin's attributes make him the perfect fit for a team that plays in this mould.

With Wednesday moving forward they are an attractive club to join and bringing in Austin would be a statement of their intent as they plot some eye catching additions ahead of the upcoming campaign.
