Leeds United defender Liam Cooper has urged the team to stay professional and focused.
Leeds United defender Liam Cooper has told the club's official website that the players cannot allow off-the-field issues to distract them.
Leeds have endured a tumultuous campaign so far, with uncertainty around Elland Road increasing, but Cooper insists that the squad simply have to remain professional.
The Whites are a club that have made numerous headlines for matters away from the field in recent seasons, but Cooper insists the players just focus on footballing matters.
"The things that are going on around the club, we can’t let that affect us," he said. “At the end of the day we are a football team and we’ve got to do it for ourselves and each other. As professionals we have got to get on with our jobs and we will do that.”
Since Massimo Cellino has taken charge, Leeds have been striving for stability without much success behind the scenes.
The recent suspension of assistant manager Steve Thompson is the most notable of these issues and it must be difficult for the players to maintain their standards with such a side-show going on.
Thompson's suspension has seemingly negatively impacted on the squad, as they have lost all four of their games in his absence, but Cooper clearly wants the squad to maintain their focus.
Leeds take on Charlton Athletic this weekend and will be keen to get back to winning ways as they seek to avoid letting their season peter out.
