Tony Cottee: Manchester United can catch Chelsea

Tony Cottee says that Manchester United can challenge Chelsea for the Premier League title this season.

Former West Ham United striker Tony Cottee has told Sky Sports that Manchester United can catch Chelsea in the Premier League this season.

The 49-year-old made the comments during The Morning View show on Thursday.

“Yes, if they beat them,” said Cottee when asked if United can catch Chelsea.

Can Manchester United catch Chelsea?

Heading into this weekend’s round of matches, United find themselves third in the Premier League table with 65 points from 32 matches.

Meanwhile, Chelsea are the league leaders and are currently on 73 points from 31 games.

if United win against the Blues at Stamford Bridge on Saturday evening, then the gap between the two teams will be just five points.

Chelsea will still have a game in hand, but given the way they have been playing in recent weeks, United’s chances of making a late challenge for the championship should not be written off.

Louis van Gaal’s side have been playing well for a month now and are in a good run of form.

Of course, picking up all three points at the Bridge will not be easy, but if United do so, then they will give themselves a slim chance of winning the Premier League title.

However, even if Chelsea suffer a defeat to United, the title will be theirs to lose.
