Spurs fans debate Lamela, Townsend futures: Should Tottenham sell the misfiring pair?

Tottenham Hotspur supporters have had their say on the wingers.

Tottenham fans have had their say on Andros Townsend and Erik Lamela after their frustrating seasons at White Hart Lane and the verdict is inconclusive heading into the summer.

On HITC Sport yesterday, we debated whether the north London club should offload both ahead of next term, instead turning to wide men currently out on loan in Aaron Lennon and Alex Pritchard (Nacer Chadli is also a first-choice winger under boss Mauricio Pochettino).

There was plenty of debate and some Spurs fans have had enough of the misfiring pair. More have lost patience with Townsend than Lamela, however, while there will no doubt be some who would persist with both.

Some interesting suggestions were made, though, such as loaning them out or simply playing Danny Rose and Kyle Walker out wide and signing two full-backs who 'can actually defend.'

With Tottenham's current squad - including Lennon and Pritchard, who are on loan at Everton and Brentford respectively - there are actually plenty of options for Pochettino going into next season. It's just that those options combined still lack the quality to get Spurs into the top four...

Here's a selection of what Tottenham fans make of Townsend and Lamela right now:

Thefyn (in reply to Caljox Potter) wrote: 'I agree about Lamela. Townsend should leave. I really like him personally, but he's already been on almost a dozen loans and he's not exactly a kid anymore. He didnt learn from AVB, he didnt learn from Harry, or the dozen other coaches he had. He's still head down, shoot, pass the buck with no awareness. He always takes one touch too many which allows defences to park the bus. It's a shame. He's a Spurs fan but we are over his level. Lamela could come good. He has the awareness, and he has worked on his issues and is improving his stamina and strength. If he can improve that, perhaps other aspects of his game will keep growing too.'

GoalsWithStyle wrote: 'Play Townsend on the left, and he too would provide like Rose does. Although I don`t see Chadli doing much from the right. For me, it would be nice to see us show we have some variation to our game, and give opposition managers something to think about for once. Our main downfall is our predictability, and I don`t honestly see that changing under Poch, he is a one system manager, and sadly tactically inept. Would love for him to prove me wrong, but at the moment I can`t see it happening, and anticipate a January departure to join the endless list of Levy appointed failures.'

Kiri wrote: 'Lamela will stay - talent like that you cannot find everywhere and sending him on loan is just stupid.

'Townsend I wouldn't be fussed if he was sold. Very little between the ears.'

Muhoo wrote: 'Townsends only a winger when he plays on the left on the right he's inverted,Spurs need two wingers in midfeild who are capbable of running on the outside as well as infield,Chadli to slow thou more of a striker really, walker useless in any position, maybe yedlin on the right, townsend left or lennon to replace him, mason and bentalab create nothing just grafters really, with two strikers upfront obviously,Dawson s dearly miss as a good captain is needed at the club,'
