Amiga and Megadrive classic to be revived for Playstation 4
Sony Computer Entertainment have announced that they have been working with developers Heavy Spectrum to make a brand new reboot of Shadow of the Beast.
Many of our readers will have fond, if not highly frustrating, memories of Shadow of the Beast, one of the trickiest but most popular games of the '90s. Whether it was on the Amiga or the Sega Megadrive we spent endless hours trying to complete it's extremely challenging levels, enraptured by it's haunting music and fantastical visuals.
Now Sony have decided to bring it back, with a new reboot for the Playstation 4.
It appears from the screenshots that have been revealed that Sony have chosen a 3d feel to the game whilst attempting to maintain the originals platform aesthetics.
The latest images are fairly basic at this point but it's early days and it's interestingly stylized.
You can view the screenshots below.
Little else is known about the game at present but it will likely be a release for the Playstation Store rather than a big release but that said we are excited to try it out and see if it lives up to the memories of our youth.
A trailer has also been released, showing the latest updates.
Now Shadow of the Beast is remembered for being one of the hardest games ever released so it will be interesting to see how the difficulty compares in this new version. Not only was the game remembered for it's difficulty but also its legendary soundtrack, which even topped our top six best soundtracks of the 16-bit era. Fingers crossed they bring it back and don't mess with it too much.
No release date has been confirmed yet but the game will be available later this year exclusively for PS4.
