Report: Newcastle United interested in signing Marseille’s Andre Ayew

Premier League outfit Newcastle United want to sign Marseille forward Andre Ayew in the summer transfer window.

Newcastle United are interested in signing Marseille forward Andre Ayew in the summer transfer window, according to The Sun.

The British tabloid claims that the Premier League outfit have made “an approach to speak to the 25-year-old”, who himself is reported to be interested in moving to England.

Magpies owned Mike Ashley is reported to be attracted by the fact that signing Ayew would involve no transfer fee, as the Ghana international is a free agent at the end of the season.

Ayew’s current contract with Ligue 1 outfit Marseille runs out in the summer, and no new deal is in place.

It has also been reported by The Sun that due to no transfer fee involved in signing Ayew, Ashley is “prepared to offer him a big salary”.

The Marseille forward is rated as one of the better players in Ligue 1 and has scored seven goals in 22 Ligue 1 matches so far this season.

The Ghanaian has created 16 chances in those games, and has a pass accuracy of 81% and a shot accuracy of 55%.

Ayew has played at Marseille in his entire career so far, but his calibre and experience means that he will be a good fit for the Premier League.

It will be interesting to see if Ayew joins Newcastle in the summer. One suspects that he will have offers from a number of top clubs, and it remains to be seen if the Magpies can convince him to move to St. James’ Park.
