Report: Liverpool emerge as surprise possible destination for Chelsea star Oscar

Liverpool are reportedly interested in signing Chelsea playmaker Oscar.

According to the Daily Mail, Liverpool are keeping tabs on Oscar's situation at Chelsea ahead of the summer transfer window.

Oscar, 23, joined Chelsea from Brazilian club Internacional back in 2012, having starred in South America as one of Brazil's next great playmakers.

With seven goals and seven assists in all competitions this season, Oscar has been a regular under Jose Mourinho - but now his future at Stamford Bridge is in question.

Oscar only signed a new five-year contract in November, keeping him in West London in 2019. Yet that prospect now looks unlikely if the latest reports are to be believed.

The Daily Mail believe that Chelsea want to make a big signing this summer, and want to balance the books, as they did by selling Romelu Lukaku, David Luiz and Andre Schurrle in the last year.

This time though, it's Oscar who could be on the chopping block, with Premier League rivals Liverpool credited with an interest.

The Reds have been linked with a host of midfielders given that Steven Gerrard will be moving on to play for Los Angeles Galaxy this summer, but few of those have been attacking midfielders, with many expecting manager Brendan Rodgers to bring in more of a holding player.

However, it's rare that a player of Oscar's quality is available, and Rodgers may now look to bring him to Anfield - despite already having Adam Lallana and Oscar's fellow Brazilian Philippe Coutinho at the club.
